Swing beam cutting

Swing beam shears or plate shears are machine tools used for straight cuts on sheet metal. On a swing beam shear the swing beam moves with the upper blade in a circular arc. At the beginning of the cut the upper blade makes contacts the sheet almost right above the lower blade. During the cut is made it moves away from the lower blade. This results in a very straight cut, which is critical for the dimensional accuracy especially for thicker materials.

Metal folding

Folding is a forming fabrication process. A gauging system with stop fingers positions the blank to the bend line. The upper beam clamps the blank to the lower beam. The folding beam bends the sheet to the programmed angle.

This means: One flange stays in the horizontal clamping position while the other flange will be folded by the folding beam. Some machines bend the sheet only up, others fold the workpiece up and down. RAS uses the folding technology in various forms, for different material thicknesses and blank lengths and produced machines with different levels of automation.
